Sidekick is a honey-sweetened soda from Wānaka. Real fruit, New Zealand honey, a splash of apple cider vinegar. We are a small company. B Corp is how we put that on a standard someone else can check — not a story we only tell ourselves.
We are in the certification process. We are not certified. There is no B on the can.
Why bother
Anyone can write “we care.” The process is the opposite of that: evidence, a constitutional change so directors have to consider people and place, then an independent review. How the process works is the mechanics. This page is the reason.
We already run the company as a family business from this town. Our Story is Fiona and Rogan. The can is New Zealand honey and New Zealand ACV. Fruit origin is on the flavour, not a blanket “NZ fruit” claim. B Corp does not replace that. It asks whether the rest of the business matches the label.
What already exists without a certificate
The work on Our Impact is not a substitute for verification. It is what we can show today:
- Breast Cancer Cure — Watermelon, NZ$10 from every 12-pack in that run (charity CC11205)
- Paw Justice — a piece of every can
- Grow Wānaka — lunch-time drinks at the community garden, not a naming-rights deal
Trade buyers who want the product, not the badge, still go to wholesale for NZ cafés and retailers.
What happens next
When B Lab publishes Sidekick on the directory, we will say so in one Journal note and on Our Impact — with their mark, not a stand-in. Until then, what B Corp certification is is the explainer, and this page is the position.
