Shoppers comparing “healthy soda” labels usually land on two ideas: real fruit soda and prebiotic soda. They are not the same job.
Real fruit soda (Sidekick’s lane)
Fruit juice or purée for taste and colour. Sweetened in our case with New Zealand honey. A splash of apple cider vinegar for brightness. Sparkling water. No cane sugar. No stevia. No erythritol.
You buy it to drink fruit soda. Not to hit a fiber target.
Prebiotic soda
Built around a functional story — often fiber or prebiotics — with soft-drink branding. Many still use stevia. Taste varies. The label leads.
You buy it for the claim. Flavour is secondary.
Label checklist
| Question | Real fruit / honey soda | Prebiotic soda |
|---|---|---|
| Why fruit is listed | Taste and colour | Often secondary to the claim |
| Sweetener | Honey (Sidekick) or sugar | Often stevia |
| Functional claim | None required | Usually the headline |
| Best for | People who want soda they finish | People shopping fiber / gut marketing |
Sidekick does not make medical or gut-health claims. We make cans people finish.
