Honey as sweetener strategy (not wellness)

1 min read Fiona
Sidekick honey soda

Honey in Sidekick is a sweetener choice, not a health halo. We use New Zealand honey because it softens fruit soda without cane-sugar syrup and without a stevia finish — not because we sell medical outcomes.

No detox. No gut miracle. No Mānuka upgrade story. Multifloral New Zealand honey. Read the can.

The job of the sweetener

Sweetener path What it optimises Trade-off
Cane sugar / HFCS Classic soda sweetness Heavy syrup profile many “better” shoppers leave
Stevia / diet stack Zero / low sugar Aftertaste some drinkers reject
Honey (our path) Finishable fruit soda Not zero sugar — honesty on the panel

Product thesis: The stevia rejection problem. Category: What is a honey-sweetened soda?.

What we say on shelf and staff lines

Honey-sweetened, no cane sugar. That is enough. Longer FOH: The 10-second FOH line.

Made-in-NZ honesty for stockists: Made in New Zealand — what that means for your fridge.

What honey is not in our brand

  • Not a substitute for water or electrolytes
  • Not vegan (honey is an animal product — we say so)
  • Not a reason to ignore the sugar number on the label
